Neighbors angry over gas station/carwash plan

TINLEY PARK, IL — Residents are worried about safety, pollution, truck traffic and property values.

TINLEY PARK, IL — Plans for Lenny’s Gas N Wash to build a combination gas station, truck stop, carwash and liquor store here have neighbors upset, SouthtownStar reported.

The Nov. 3 story stated that residents are worried about the safety of children, pollution, truck traffic and decreased property values. Neighbors here rallied to help prevent the construction of a Wal-Mart in the area a few years ago.

City council cancels plans for carwash

Mayor Ed Zabrocki does not like the gas station either.“I don’t think a gas station would bring in new developers. And I don’t think we can stop the gas station because it is zoned that way. But we can object to the diesel trucks fueling there,” he said in the story.

Though a county traffic study showed that the plan would not increase traffic on local streets, residents think it may be hard for trucks to turn into the location without the addition of a turning lane.

Carwash/gas station final plans approved

Another Lenny’s Gas N Wash opened earlier this year a few miles away, and it has been trouble-free,according to the police chief. “We’ve had no calls over there. The place is really nice. It’s been very quiet. It’s kind of an upscale place when compared with other gas stations,” the chief said in the story.
