New paint job at carwash may lead to fines

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The goal of the new paint job was to improve the look of a self-serve carwash, but it has gotten the owner in trouble with a code enforcement official, according to the St. Augustine Record.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — David Kfoury recently purchased a self-serve wash, and thought it needed some improvements to increase business, according to the St. Augustine Record.

The co-owner of the wash hired his friend to paint the wash. It was painted with bright colors, and different types of geometric shapes. “We’re really trying to make the place a lot nicer,” he said.

However, after the painting was finished, Kfoury received a call from code enforcement, saying he could be fined up to $250 a day if his wash did not have an approved paint color, according to the article.

Planning and Building Department Director Mark Knight said the color is a concern because the location is an entry corridor, and there are pre-approved colors.

The wash never got its colors pre-approved, according to Knight. Kfoury has filed an appeal and the meeting to determine the painting of the wash could take place as early as May.
