COLCHESTER, CT — The Colchester Zoning Board has put a stop to an annual Bacon Academy football team fundraiser because of water pollution concerns.
The fundraiser has been held for five years in a local Advance Auto Parts store parking lot.
“We’re not preventing them from holding carwashes there,” Colchester Zoning Enforcement Officer Craig Grimord said in the NorwichBulletin.com story. “But they would need to have a way to contain the wastewater and dispose of it to prevent it from running down into the wetlands… there’s potential to contaminate the water supply.”
Charity carwash denied permit
The EPA weighed in on the issue saying parking lot carwashes that involve a large number of vehicles are not a “harmless activity.”
