New York, NY – A third carwash has agreed to a contract with employees giving them five sick days and two personal days according to a New York Daily News report.
Under the contract, employees would also be protected against discrimination, would equally distribute their tips and would be protected against layoffs – requiring them to be done by reverse seniority
Stuart Appelbaum, president of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union said in the story that the new contract, “proves that low-wage immigrant workers are able and willing to stand up and fight for better lives through unionization.”
The “carwasheros” had been in a six-month labor dispute with their Mott Haven employer, Sunny Day Car Wash.
