FARMINGTON, Mich. — Holly and Mike Owen opened Colonial Car Wash 25 years ago, and they will celebrate the business’ anniversary by giving away free carwashes, according to hometownlife.com.
Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25-26, customers can get their cars cleaned for free. In keeping with their longstanding charitable support, the Owens also ask people to donate to the American Diabetes Association, said the article.
The owners built the 140-foot long wash in 1989, and it was named “Best Wash in the State” by the Michigan Car Wash Association within nine months, stated the article. Some of their customers drive as long as 45 minutes to use the carwash.

According to Mark Owens, the wash attracts customers by using the right chemicals. “We go all out. We use the right soaps and in the right order,” he shared in the article.
The couple also offers employees health insurance and vacation time. Three of their original employees work at the adjacent three-bay oil change, opened 15 years ago, reported the article.
Throughout the years the carwash has added more vacuums and detailing centers customers can pull into, noted the article. “We are changing with the industry,” said Mark in the article. “You have to learn as you go along.”
