SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Brett Roemen, owner of Empire Car Wash, is hosting a fundraiser during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in honor of his sister, according to KELOLAND TV.
“I thought about it, and I said what a great way to do it. We’re giving away a dollar for every carwash in the month of October,” said Roemen in the article.
A local sponsor is matching donations raised dollar for dollar, stated the article.
Roemen’s sister, Wendy Moe, went through 28 radiation treatments and eight rounds of chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer, reported the article.
“Going through that battle with her … and watching her [and] the strength she had. It was inspiring,” stated Roemen in the article. “It was inspiring at a negative time to see someone who stayed so strong.”
Roemen reported that he isn’t sure how many cars have been washed so far this month, continued the article, however, he estimates the number of washes to be between 5,000 to 6,000.
All money raised will go toward breast cancer research at the Edith Sanford Breast Center, noted the article.
“You see way too much of this and in way too young of women. So, [anyone who] can help with that and hopefully change this someday would be great,” said Moe in the article.
