Water rate hike shocks carwash operator

EVANSVILLE, IN — Officials here say a recently approved water rate increase was necessary due to an aging pipe system that needs repairs, TristateHomepage.com reported.

The Feb. 20 story stated that, in addition to pipe repairs, the funds are needed to replace water pumps and paint water towers. First Avenue Car Wash is one of the businesses here that will see the biggest impact from the higher rates.

“It's just kind of a surprise and a shock, you know, everything else going up, I guess it was coming up next,” First Avenue Assistant Manager Joey Medicis said in the story. “Obviously this means it's going to be a bigger bill for us and hopefully it doesn't affect us too bad.”

Medicis said the carwash prices will stay the same, but the wash is open to new ideas to save water and money. "We're always looking for new ideas, you know. We take advice from other car washes, but we are always looking for new ideas to cut out water, cut spending, cut anything."

City forces carwashes to shut down one day a week

Evansville Water Superintendent Roger Johnson said in the story, “These projects are always present and will always be present in the future, and it just takes additional funds that just the normal every day budget doesn’t cover.”
