BROOKLYN, N.Y. — According to www.abc7ny.com, an 85-year-old woman was killed and her 90-year-old husband was critically injured after being struck by an SUV at a carwash on May 1st.
The police reported that the two victims were evaluating damage to the rear of their silver Honda Accord, which a black Jeep Liberty had just rear-ended as it was leaving the carwash, the article continued.
A 61-year-old male employee got into the Jeep, reversed the SUV and hit the building, the article noted; he then accelerated forward and hit the couple standing behind their Honda Accord.
Witnesses stated that the woman was caught under the car and that the driver backed up and struck her three times, the article added.
The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, the article continued, and her husband was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center in critical condition.
The owner of the SUV, who did not want to be identified, said that he was waiting for his car and watched in disbelief as the scene unfolded, the article noted.
“My car bumped the other car and started rolling,” said the Jeep owner. “The worker tried to jump in it, got nervous I guess, hit the gas and ran over the people continuously.”
The employee who drove the Jeep Liberty remained at the scene, and witnesses claimed they didn’t believe he intended any harm but only lost control of the vehicle and could not seem to recover, the article stated.
“It wasn’t intentional; it was someone who didn’t know how to drive,” said another witness who did not want to be identified.
No arrests were made at the time, but the incident is still under investigation, the article concluded.
