WASILLA, Alaska — Steven Berry, a former employee at Mudbusters Car Wash, stole from the wash over the course of many years, amassing an estimated $400,000, according to the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman.
Berry will be serving a year in prison for his crimes. A considerable portion of his money came from removing dollar coins from carwash machines. The year after Berry was fired, the wash took in $15,000 more in coins on wash machines.
When Berry was arrested, $100,000 in dollar coins were found in his house.
Judge Kari Kristiansen said “He stole from the [owners of the wash] in every way,” including falsifying time cards.
She noted that Berry was given the longest sentence that was allowed to by the court.
