With the Car Care World Expo right around the corner, this month’s tip is about how to take advantage of all the show has to offer. It’s the time of the year, in the car wash industry, when new items and products are introduced, and often at introductory prices. It’s also a great time to look at new ways to improve your business through training, equipment innovations and advancements in chemicals; all designed to streamline your operations. With all the information that’s out there how do you make the most of it? What if you’re not able to go to the show? I have some tips that will hopefully allow you to take advantage of the opportunities at the show.

First, I recommend you walk the entire trade show floor. As you’re walking the floor don’t stop at any booth, just note the areas where you see something of interest. In fact, for you iPhone® users, the ICA has an application. You can find it by searching for Car Care World Expo. The application will allow you to view a map of the floor layout and bookmark any booths that you want to visit.

Secondly, I recommend that you ask other people what they saw that was interesting and why. After you have mapped out the products or services that you want more information about, go back to the booths and make sure you get all your questions answered. Keep in mind that you may find the best deals on new products at the show, so if you see something you’re interested in be ready to make a buying decision.

In addition to the products, be sure to review the education schedule as well. Attend sessions that you think could have the biggest impact on your business. The education sessions are usually an hour in length, so working them into your schedule is relatively easy.

If you’re not able to attend the show this year, you can still get deals. A large percentage of companies have most of the new products they are displaying available on their web site as well. Some even offer the same show specials directly from the web.

In my opinion, the products or services that allow an operator to reduce labor and increase production are going to be very popular this year. This is also the best time of the year to talk to fellow operators about things they have been able to do to increase their business over the last year. Also, bring a list of your current problems or areas for improvement at your wash, then find a solution.

I hope to see you at the show but remember, not being able to attend doesn’t mean you have to miss what it offers.
