Established owner takes carwash and detailing business mobile

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Mark Johnson, owner of Buff Masters Hand Car Wash & Detail Center, is also part of the Detail Mafia.

WILMINGTON, N.C. — Mark Johnson, owner of Buff Masters Hand Car Wash & Detail Center, officially started his car care company in 1988, according to the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.

He is also part of the Detail Mafia, stated the article, and recently went to Seattle with the Detailers of Air Force One team to help restore over a dozen Boeing aircraft for its 100th anniversary celebration.

The Professional Carwashing & Detailing team featured news about the Detailers of Air Force One’s restoration project for Boeing’s 100th anniversary in a past edition of Carwash eNews. You can find this coverage here.

Working on the historic aircraft inspired Johnson, reported the article, however he also said in the article that the event was “one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It’s a really cool thing … being a part of preserving American history.”

When Johnson is not working with the Detail Mafia, continued the article, he can typically be found at his Buff Masters location on the corner of Wrightsville Avenue and South College Road, which has been in operation since 2007.

Although established in 1988, informed the article, Johnson teamed up with a client to move his car care business into its current site on South College Road so he could offer high-end detailing as well as regular carwashes.

Additionally, Johnson also brings Buff Masters to his customers, added the article.

The business sets up hand wash locations at local businesses to wash the employees’ cars, stated the article.

The hand wash locations use only a cup of water on average, reported the article, which is an attractive, eco-friendly feature to businesses with no-runoff policies.

An improved app is also being designed to help customers track the progress of their cars, continued the article.

Likewise Buff Masters set up shop at the Independence Mall last summer, informed the article, for which customers could drop off their cars to be washed while they shop, and then a valet would drop off the shoppers at the mall’s entrance and pick them back up once they finished shopping.

However, there were some challenges with this new concept, added the article, which included finding the best ways to inform customers of the service as well as targeting the main mall demographics who might not want to pay for the service.

According to the article, these challenges aren’t slowing down Johnson’s plans to expand the hand wash services at malls across the state.

Buff Masters also works with auto dealerships by taking control of their in-house detailing and prep services, noted the article, which helps the dealers save on employee and insurance costs while earning extra revenue from additional services they can offer customers.

“We’re there to support [the dealerships],” said Johnson in the article. “We’re in the process now of opening this facility for a dealer group out of Lillington and Fuquay. They’re going to run all of their dealership stuff through that.”
