Gerber acquires collision repair center

CHICAGO — The center has approximately 19,000 square feet of production space.

CHICAGO — The Boyd Group Inc. announced the recent acquisition and opening of a collision repair center located in Battle Creek, Michigan, according to a press release.

The collision center previously operated under the name Phil Smead’s Auto Body, stated the release.

“This is Gerber’s second location in Battle Creek and adds to our strong presence in the state of Michigan,” said Tim O’Day, president and chief operating officer of the Boyd Group’s U.S. operations, in the release. “As we continue to expand in the state we are able to better serve our customers and insurance partners.”

The center has approximately 19,000 square feet of production space, continued the release.

“This is a large facility that has been serving the Battle Creek community since 1980,” stated O’Day in the release. “We will maintain the high level of customer service and quality that has been established over the past 35 years and that we are known for at all our Gerber repair centers. Our portfolio continues to grow and we are on track to meet our targeted 2015 growth rate of [six] to 10 percent through single store additions.”

Directly and through subsidiaries, noted the release, the Boyd Group is an operator of non-franchised collision repair centers in North America, with locations in five Canadian provinces under the trade name Boyd Autobody & Glass and in 17 states in the U.S. under the trade names Gerber Collision & Glass and Champ’s Collision Centers.

Reaching new reclaim heights

There is a lot of variety in the carwash industry. Not only are there different types of washes, but the design, equipment, chemistry, staffing and service can greatly vary from one site to the next. However, there’s one non-negotiable constant in every wash: Water.

Since water — and lots of it — is so essential to this industry, it only makes sense to strive for ways to maximize every single drop. That’s where the reclaim process comes in. Collecting, rehabilitating and reusing as much water as possible is essential to protect the environment, the availability of resources and a carwash’s bottom line. That’s why industry leaders are currently driving innovation to find ways to reclaim even more water than ever.
