Car Wash Awareness Month supports local nonprofits

SEATTLE — The effort is held to promote safe carwashing practices in the region.

SEATTLE — The Puget Sound Car Wash Association (PSCWA) is sponsoring Car Wash Awareness Month during May to promote safe carwashing in the region, according to a press release.

To celebrate the month PSCWA will sell carwash fundraiser tickets to nonprofits, noted the release. Nonprofits can purchase the tickets, then resell them to the public. The effort provides these organizations with an alternative program to harmful driveway washing to raise funds.

When professional carwashes wash heavy metals, oil and toxic chemicals off vehicles, they dispose of them into sanitary sewers, reported the release. This stands in contrast to washing cars in residential driveways, where chemicals can seep into waterways.

Car Wash Awareness Month is held in partnership with the Department of Ecology for King, Pierce, Thurston and Snohomish Counties, area cities, the Puget Sound Partnership, the Washington Environmental Council and the Puget Soundkeeper Alliance, stated the release.

PSCWA has received King County’s Earth Hero Award for innovative and effective environmental programs, shared the release. The International Carwash Association has also awarded PSCWA its Community Service Leadership Award.

Nonprofit groups can order tickets at www.Charitycarwash.org.
