European petroleum stations reduce energy use with LED retrofits

BUCHAREST, Romania — The company expects to see a 50 percent reduction in energy use for lighting.

BUCHAREST, Romania — OMV Petrom has retrofitted 345 of its distribution systems with a LED-based lighting system, according to actmedia.eu.

The company invested 2.1 million euro in the upgrade, and chose Electromagnetica as its supplier for the system, said the article.

“The increase of energy efficiency represents an important objective both for us, at company level and for Romania and the EU who assumed the reduction of annual electricity consumption by 30% by 2030,” stated Neil Anthony Morgan, member of the Directorate OMV Petrom, in the article. “This project underlines our concern to improve the energy performance of the company.”

The LEDs replaced older lighting in the stations’ shops, carwashes and premises, noted the article.

The company estimates reduced electricity consumption for lighting of 50 percent, and a drop in electric bills of 11 percent, reported the article.

The project was supported by a loan to Romania by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the EU, shared the article.
