MANTECA, Calif. — While carwashes are not always thought of as environmentally friendly or conserving water, the truth about them is often different, according to the Manteca Bulletin.
Prime Shine Car Wash General Manager Evan Porges, who wrote the article, stated that “saving water is a team sport.” The Prime Shine chain has been “proactively saving water” since they began in 1991.

The WaterSavers program by the International Carwash Association, is a great way to participate in water conservation, Porges notes.
“WaterSavers requires members to use less than 40 gallons of fresh water per wash and filter all runoff before discharge into the sewer system. At Prime Shine, we voluntarily hold ourselves to even tougher standards,” he wrote.

There are additional steps Prime Shine takes to conserve water during a wash, including the use of as little fresh water as possible, using non-acidic chemicals and educating employees on the importance of water conservation. The article also goes into many other things the wash does to help with water conservation.
With Earth Day this Saturday, this is an important time to remind people how vital water conservation is, according to Porges.
