ORANGE, Ohio — According to an article on cleveland.com, after officers did a routine check on a 2015 Volkswagen Jetta and listed it as stolen, a patrol officer lay in wait nearby as the driver of the stolen vehicle took it through the Village Auto-Wash.
Before the stolen rental went through, the article continued, a man exited the car and walked away.
Officers then pulled the car over in a nearby Wendy’s lot, the article stated, and the female driver said that it was a rental in her brother’s name.
When asked if the man who had exited the car was her brother, she replied that it was her uncle, the article noted.
Her uncle was later picked up walking near the Beechmont Country Club and told authorities that his niece had said to get out of the car when she saw the police cruiser, the article stated.
He reported that she had only told him that she had “identity theft issues” and didn’t want him to get caught up in it, the article concluded.
