Old night club could become a full-service wash

WAINSCOTT, NY — A proposal for the town's first full-service carwash was well received by the planning board.

WAINSCOTT, NY — A vacant night club that closed five years ago could become a full-service carwash if plans are approved by the East Hampton Town Planning Board, reported the East Hampton Patch.

The Sept. 19 story stated that, if approved, it will be Wainscott’s only full-service carwash. Businessmen Jeffrey Schneider and Tom Barton want to tear down the existing barn and build a cutting edge 5,400-square-foot wash equipped with four detailing bays. Barton said in the story, “I am not sure why no one has tried to open a car wash before. We’ve been talking about it for years.”

"The car wash process will be the most automated car wash on the island," Daniel Bell of Ziposhine, a carwash sales equipment representative who Schneider and Barton hired as a consultant, told the board.

Bell said that the new carwash could see as many as 150 cars in a single day. He estimated 90 percent of the work will be done by machine and 12 employees will be on-site. "The employees are there for vacuuming the car and basically doing the inside of the windows and that's it," he said in the story. "We can be very efficient with our labor."

The town planning board met the application with open arms, though some voiced concern about machine noise and water pollution.

“The water will be recycled. The equipment will recycle 160,000 gallons a minute. I don't have any car wash I've ever done that actually uses that much water," Bell told the board.

The proposal is still in its preliminary stages, although a positive response is expected from the town board. Once it has been approved, the plans will be sent to the State Department of Transportation and the Suffolk County Department of Health.
