EXMOUTH, ENGLAND — Town councilors here voted against a Tesco supermarket’s plan to convert nine parking spaces into a hand carwash, the Exmouth Journal reported.
The Feb. 22 story stated that Tesco bosses explained the operation would create new and sustainable growth in the area. Four full-time and four part-time jobs were planned for the wash.

Councilors opposed the operation because it would hurt existing carwashes for the sake of expanding the Tesco empire.
Councilor Maddie Chapman said in the meeting, “I object to this. There are car wash businesses in the town who are struggling and I don’t see why they should need a car wash. They are a superstore and there is no need for this.”
