MIAMI ― Carwash owner Errold Peart died Sunday afternoon while trying to protect a customer from armed robbers, The Miami Herald reported.

The Dec. 3 story said Peart noticed two men trying to rob a customer. He went outside to try and stop them, but they ended up shooting him before fleeing the scene.

Peart, who opened the carwash about 10 years ago, represented the United States in five matches at the Cricket Council Trophy in 1990. He was also five days away from turning 60.

The newspaper article mentioned how Peart was known for his generous spirit. He often didn't charge people for carwashes if they were short on money. He also hired people who had conviction records. His son Dameion Peart said in the story, “He was a very good, kindhearted person and a good father at the same time. The community where his business is located, he really helped them out here.”
