PA carwash has gas lines after hurricane Sandy

PALMER TOWNSHIP, PA — A line of cars were waiting at Rudy’s Car Wash and Gulf Mart here on the border with New Jersey.

PALMER TOWNSHIP, PA — The manager of Rudy’s Car Wash and Gulf Mart here was worried that the business would run out of gas again last Friday, The Morning Call reported.

The Nov. 2 story stated that the wash is located on the state line close to New Jersey, and the station had a line of cars that stretched into the road. Manager Nate Anderson was concerned the location would run out of gas again like it did the day before.

Disaster recovery

Last Thursday, Rudy’s sold 9,000 gallons of gas, which would normally last the business about two days. “It’s ridiculous. People are coming from New Jersey or New York,” Anderson said in the story. “People drive 130 miles just to get here, just to get some gas.”

Normally, Pennsylvanians on the eastern state line have traveled to New Jersey to fill up because of lower gas taxes. Now the trend is reversed since Jersey stations that were slammed by hurricane Sandy lack fuel or the electricity to pump it.

When disaster strikes, will you be ready?

At Rudy’s, one customer had driven 60 miles from New Jersey to fill up a few dozen gas cans to use for roofing company trucks. Another group of workers from New Jersey American Water were also filling cans citing waits of 90 minutes to two hours in their state.
