RUTHERGLEN, ENGLAND — A number of citizens here showed up during a Burnside Community Council last week to vent their frustration at an application for a carwash, the Rutherglen Reformer reported.
The Sept. 12 story stated that an application has been submitted for a carwash at an abandoned garage. Even though the council secretary had welcomed the news that the business would no longer be empty, neighbors were not as happy.
According to the story, one resident of the nearby Stonelaw Towers said, “There’s no way on Earth I want a carwash next to my house. In the winter, when it gets really cold, imagine how much of a hazard it’s going to be when the water is flowing and it freezes over, not to mention the noise from the generators.”
Another angry resident said during the meeting, “I would rather have an empty petrol station than an active carwash.”
This is the second time an application has been registered. It was previously registered with an incorrect address meaning any objections had to be submitted twice.
In the past, the vacant property had become “unsightly” and attracted graffiti, the story noted. The city received permission from the property owner to clean up some of the vandalism.
