Veterans’ franchise contest down to 10 semifinalists

DALLAS — The public will narrow the competition down to three by voting on Facebook.

DALLAS — 7-Eleven’s Operation: Take Command contest is now in the hands of the public, according to a press release.

The competition is between 10 semifinalists, noted the release. The veterans or soon-to-be-veterans of the U.S. military are vying for the chance to own a 7-Eleven franchise.

The semifinalists were selected from more than 1,700 applications received from Veterans Day 2014 through Jan. 25, 2015, stated the release. As part of the next phase of the contest, the public will choose the final three service members to be interviewed by 7-Eleven’s CEO.

Semifinalists’ videos describing why they should win the competition are posted on 7-Eleven’s Facebook page, reported the release. Facebook users can like their favorites, and then the top three will be interviewed by CEO Joe Pinto, a former military serviceman.

“We have been amazed at the huge interest and outstanding quality of those who have applied for a franchise fee-free 7-Eleven store in our Operation: Take Command contest,” said Greg Franks, 7-Eleven vice president of franchise systems, in the release. “Choosing a winner will be tough because of the high caliber of these 10 individuals, and we are counting on the public to make the decision on who advances to the final round.”

Facebook voting runs March 16-29, shared the release. The winner will be announced in May.
