Travel Centers of America acquires c-store chain in Kentucky

WESTLAKE, Ohio — TA also plans to acquire 13 additional principally leased locations.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — TravelCenters of America (TA) has acquired 21 Thoroughbred Energy convenience stores from Traxx Cos., according to CSPnet.com.

TA also plans to acquire 13 additional principally leased locations pending the completion of certain closing conditions by the seller, stated the article.

The assets include two dealer-operated c-stores and their related fuel supply contracts, wholesale fuel supply contracts for another 11 dealer locations and 32 company-operated c-stores, reported the article.

TA has started to operate all acquired sites as well as the “to-be-acquired stores,” the article continued, and plans to rebrand the 34 locations, which average more than 3,100 square feet, as Minit Mart c-stores.

The c-stores will undergo upgrades in the coming months, added the article.

Thoroughbred Energy, a unit of Traxx Cos., is the largest wholesale and retail Shell-Oil-branded distributor in Kentucky, noted the article, and with this sale, the company will be getting out of the c-store business.

“The decision to exit the industry was a tough one for the Thoroughbred team,” said Jay Hall, president and CEO of Thoroughbred Energy, in the article. “The founders, our fourth partner and attorney Mr. Ronald Tritschler, and all our great employees poured their lives into this company for nearly three decades. The relationships found and fostered will remain.”
