Commission to review controversial project

LISBON, Wis. — The Wexford Heights development company of Germantown wants to build a gasoline and diesel fueling center, carwash, convenience store and drive-thru restaurant.

LISBON, Wis. — A review board will meet this week to discuss the pending construction of a fueling and convenience center complex near the roundabout at highways 164 and Q, according to the Lake Country Reporter.

At the site of a former bank, stated the article, the Wexford Heights development company of Germantown wants to build a gasoline and diesel fueling center, carwash, convenience store and drive-thru restaurant.

During more than eight months of deliberations and with four to three votes, the project has been rejected twice by the plan commission, reported the article.

Some local residents and commission members are worried that the project is too big and will pose potential hazards to private wells and motorists navigating through the roundabout, continued the article.

“It is just too big,” said Jane Stadler, commissioner, during one of last week’s hearings as reported in the article. “There is too much going on there. It is like trying to put a 250-pound woman in a size-10 girdle.”

Lawyers for the developers have filed a lawsuit in the Waukesha County Circuit Court, added the article, arguing that by rejecting the project the commission violated the town’s zoning codes.

Attorney Daniel Kelly has asserted that the project meets town, county and state standards, noted the article, and the plans were rejected by the commission “despite objective evidence that the development posed no threat to the community.”
