Cavalieri honored with South San Francisco Historical Society award

SAN FRANCISCO — Long-time carwash owner honored for his contributions to the Historical Society and community.

SAN FRANCISCO — The South San Francisco (SSF) Historical Society presented Basil Cavalieri the Victor Jon Feudale award at its 32nd Annual Historical Society Banquet on Oct. 21st, according to a press release.

Basil Cavalieri, 83 and a long-time business owner, community volunteer and philanthropist, the release continued, was acknowledged for his outstanding contributions and dedication to the Historical Society and the community.

His company, South City Car Wash, opened in 1958 and is celebrating its 58th year as a family-run business, the release noted.

Basil has maintained membership in the Chamber of Commerce for over 55 years and was honored with a Lifetime Achievement in Business presented by Congresswoman Jackie Speier, the release stated.

Basil has been a member of the South City Lions Club for 45 years and served as President in 1974 and 1979, the release added; in addition, he has been a member of the Elks Lodge in SSF for 50 years.

He was honored as “Person of the Year” by the City of South San Francisco in 1976 for his volunteer work coordinating the city’s Bicentennial and in 1994 by the SSF Italian-American Citizens Club for his dedication to community service, according to the release.

For over 50 years, the release continued, Basil’s business donations have supported local police, firefighters, schools and youth sports in South City.

His business continues to support our current and former men and women in uniform with free carwashes, food and gifts on Veteran’s Day, the release noted.

Basil directed and sponsored the first St. Jude Children’s Hospital fundraiser for SSF in the mid-1970s, the release stated.

Basil is celebrating his 60th wedding anniversary this year with his wife, Barbara, the release noted; together they have two sons (both married) and four grandchildren and spend much of their summers enjoying retirement in Lake Tahoe.
