Bank robber caught in line at carwash

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — A suspected bank robber fails to make a clean getaway.

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa — According to an article on nonpareilonline.com, police arrested a suspected bank robber, Hubert T. Carter III, at a carwash barely a block away from the crime scene.

According to the police, Carter walked into the UP Connections Federal Credit Union at South 35th St. and Second Ave., where he handed a note to an employee stating that he was armed and demanding money, the article stated.

Officer Ty Boldra said that Carter displayed no weapon and left the credit union with a bank bag, the article noted.

Just one block north at Bucky’s Express convenience store, the article added, Carter’s vehicle — a white Chevy Trailblazer with Nebraska plates — was seen waiting in line at the carwash.

According to Boldra, the article stated, about six cop cars crowded behind Carter’s car and arrested him, though they waited for a warrant before searching the car.

Officers later searched the vehicle and found the bag with an undisclosed amount of money inside, the article noted, but there was no weapon in the car.

Boldra said no one was injured and added that he did not know if Carter needed money for the carwash, the article reported.

Carter was sent to Pottawattamie County Jail on $50,000 bond with charges of first-degree theft and third-degree burglary, the article concluded.
