Man embezzled over $234,000 from carwash

CASPER, Wyo. — A man forged nearly 17,000 transactions over five years from a single carwash.

CASPER, Wyo. — According to www.trib.com, Travis Wilson allegedly embezzled $234,763 from the local Cowboy Auto Spa carwash where he worked by scamming the company’s computer system.

Wilson faces two felony charges for larceny and theft, both to which he pleaded not guilty, the article continued.

An owner at Cowboy Auto Spa first reported an alleged theft in September 2016, the article stated, and a detective looked into the case.

One of the co-owners told the detective that he believed Wilson, who was at that time the general manager in charge of day-to-day operations and the only person with full access to the company’s computer system, was embezzling money, the article noted; the owner also reported that when he called the company that operates the carwash’s computer software, the company found that more than $100,000 has been stolen.

The co-owner stated that he believed Wilson was deleting a number of sales from carwashes every day and taking the money from those deleted sales for himself, the article reported; then, Wilson would edit the day’s total amounts to make it appear that all the revenue was accounted for.

According to the article, the co-owner confronted Wilson about the matter, but he denied the accusations.

A forensic evaluation of the company’s accounts found that a total of $234,763 was embezzled between August 2011 and August 2016, equating to nearly 17,000 carwash transactions that were edited, the article noted.

Wilson was fired on Sept. 7, 2016, the article concluded, and since that time, there has been no suspicious activity in the accounts.
