TOKYO — Nikkei, a Japanese newspaper, reported that FamilyMart Co. Ltd., a Japanese retailer, is closing all eight of its U.S. Famima!! convenience store locations, is liquidating Famima Corp. USA and will exit the U.S., according to CSPnet.com.
With headquarters in Torrance, California, all Famima!! c-store locations are located on the West Coast throughout the Los Angeles area, stated the article.
The c-store’s location in Santa Monica closed in late September according to social media reports, continued the article, and the rest of the sites are projected to close by the end of October.
Following the first store opening in 2005, FamilyMart planned to open as many as 200 stores in the U.S. within four years, reported the article, and from 2005 to 2013, the retailer opened and closed several locations, eventually settling with its eight stores.
The company still planned “extensive international growth,” which included the U.S., as recently as 2014, informed the article.
