SALINAS, Calif. — Police have received reports of a new scam where suspects posing as auto detailers con elderly victims out of hundreds of dollars, according to KION.
One victim had his carwash washed at a legitimate business. Two men followed the man back to his home and told the man his car had been damaged during the wash.
The suspects offered the fix and detail the car for $1,000, paid in advance. They replaced a trim piece, applied wax and let it sit overnight, said the article.
The suspects followed the man to the bank to get the money, and they did not return the next day to finish the work.
Another incident was reported in which suspects offered to airbrush a car for $1,500. They also followed the victim to the bank and obtained the money. They did not return the next day to finish the job, and they provided a faulty phone number, noted the article.
Police are asking the public to call them with any information.
