CHICAGO — Below zero temperatures closed many washes in the area, but Sotero “Joe” Perez, at Elgin Car Wash remained open, according to the Courier-News.
Perez said as long as a car is properly dried after getting out of a wash, there is no reason to close up shop during the cold. Precautions were taken to make sure cars did not freeze. Added heaters were put in the rooms that store chemicals, and cars were switched from drying outside to drying indoors. They were even drying the door jambs to ensure cars doors did not freeze.
He said his business was able to pick up some new customers over the weekend, when wash seekers were unable to get service at their normal location.
Perez was happy to assist customers over the weekend. “There is a feeling you get when you have a nice, clean car,” he said.
