MENLO PARK, Calif. — Facebook offers several benefits to its customers, including free carwashes, according to Yahoo! Finance.
The social media company offers its employees other rare benefits like three free meals per day at the office, medical care in situ, sperm bank access and more, said the article.
The latest and more controversial among these benefits is covering up to $20,000 of the price to freeze a woman’s eggs so she can put off child birth, noted the article.
Apple will also begin paying for the practice in January, and while the companies say it is meant to help women with families, others believe it is insulting to women in the workforce.
“They felt they were just trying to deflect the conversation about equal pay for women,” stated Carolyn Leighton, founder of WITI, a network for women in the tech sector, in the article.
“Surely what they meant to say was, ‘We want women at Apple to spend more of their lives working for us without a family to distract them,’” stated Jessica Cussins of the Center for Genetics and Society in a Huffington Post editorial, reported the article.
