Mobile carwashes face new regulations in the City of Lights

LAS VEGAS — The new ordinance places restrictions on where and how often these business can operate.

LAS VEGAS — City officials passed an ordinance placing more regulation on mobile carwashes, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

The ordinance requires mobile carwash and detailing business owners to obtain an annual $250 license per business vehicle. They are now also prohibited from conducting business within 150 feet of all stationary carwashes.

The new rule does not apply to automated carwashes, said the article.

The affected mobile hand-washes are now required to obtain written permission to operate on private property (including private driveways), and their operating hours are limited to three hours per day, stated the article.

There is also a ban on operating these carwashes on public rights of way, noted the article. City officials hope to keep any harmful chemicals out of the sewer drains.

Violators could face up to $1,000 in fines and six months in prison, reported the article.
