ASPEN, Colo. — One of the town’s two gas stations is closing because of the town’s high-end real estate market development and its emphasis on alternate transportation, according to an article in the Aspen Daily News.
Mario Zulian’s sold his Conoco station in June for $6 million. It houses gas pumps, an Eco Steam Wash and a temporary staffing agency, said the article.
Zulian says the other gas station is already extremely busy, and the closure of his business will add to that traffic, which could pose safety issues for the town.
His suggestions included adding a drive-thru carwash using his water-saving steam technology. The developer is looking into other projects for the site like lodging, noted the article.
Mayor Steve Skadron said the town is trying to make car travel less of a priority, so losing a gas station is not a huge concern to him.
