Carwash workers still committed to walkout at NYC wash

QUEENS, N.Y. — Disputes between Off Broadway Car Wash owner and his staff are still ongoing, according to the New York Daily News.

QUEENS, N.Y. — Four days after carwash workers staged a walkout at Off Broadway Carwash, there is still yet to be a resolution, according to the New York Daily News.

“We want to work,” said Orlando Hernandez, one of the wash employees. “The majority of us are surviving on what we have saved up, but that’s not very much and it’s not going to last very long,” he continued in the article.

Hernandez and 15 other workers have filed a formal complaint against David Amar, the owner of the carwash. Amar has been accused of cutting worker pay and no-showing collective bargaining meetings.

The Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, which works with Off Broadway Car Wash employees, filmed Amar making obscene gestures at the employees during the walkout on Thursday.

Stephen Hans, Amar’s lawyer, said his client will work with the union. “We have an obligation to negotiate and bargain, and we’re going to do that.”

There is an ongoing investigation by the National Labor Relations Board into Amar’s retaliation to the workers’ unionization decision.
