TINGALPA, QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA — A carwash business here is able to continue operations during a water shortage because they use their own water, Quest Newspapers reported.
The Jan. 30 story stated that muddy water forced the closure of the city’s treatment plant, and officials feared six cities would run out of potable water. Residents were urged to stop all non-essential water use, including carwashes.
Wash owner installed water tank during drought
A carwash operator defended his continued operations by explaining that the company does not use city water. “We understand the need to conserve water, but our wash does not use potable water for washing,” Operator Chris Cummins said in the story.
The wash spent several hundred thousand dollars on rainwater harvesting, storage and recycling facilities to use in its car, boat and van wash.
