Intoxicated deputy shoots his own truck at carwash

MUNCIE, IN — Police were called after shots were fired, and officers found a green Dodge Ram in a wash bay with several bullet holes in it.

MUNCIE, IN — A reserve deputy with the county sheriff’s office here was placed on administrative leave after shots were fired at a carwash, The Star Press reported.

The Jan. 25 story stated that a shots fired call brought officers to a carwash early in the morning on Saturday, Jan. 19. When they arrived, they found a green Dodge Ram in a wash bay that had several bullet holes in it.

The owner of the vehicle, Thomas A. Smith, was highly intoxicated. He was taken into police custody on the scene, according to the story.

Smith was taken to the Yorktown Police Department for questioning, and then he was taken to the IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital with a police hold. Records indicate Smith was never booked into the Delaware County jail.

Wash allegedly used to clean up after murder

Smith later turned in his county-issued ID and keys, and further action was taken to remove Smith’s gun from his possession. The sheriff’s office will conduct its own in-depth internal investigation about the incident, the story noted.
