CHATTANOOGA, TN — A self-serve carwash here was left with a collapsing roof after a hit-and-run attack by vandals, WRCB reported.
The June 17 story stated that the vandals destroyed the business by knocking down a wall with their vehicle. Police found chrome or silver paint on the fallen wall, and they think a truck or SUV drove straight into it, knocked it over and drove away.
Owner Max Falk was devastated when he saw the extensive damage. “I about cried. My guess is probably $17,000 to $20,000 in there somewhere,” Falk estimated in the story. “That hurts a lot.”
Falk doesn’t think the occurrence was an accident because the culprits also tried to break into the change machine. Thieves have tried to break into the machines in the past, but have walked away empty handed.
Falk’s carwashes have also had metal grates stolen. Criminals will sell the metal at scrap yards. “Definitely have some bad mornings where I think ‘Is this worth it,’” he said in the story.
The carwash is insured, but Falk was unable to contact the company over the weekend.
