Carwash finds creative way to stay open during water emergency

HALFMOON, N.Y. — Hoffman Car Wash in Halfmoon was determined to stay open following a massive water main break in the area.

HALFMOON, N.Y. — Following a massive water main break in Troy, water emergencies forced businesses in the region to shut down this past Tuesday, Jan. 19, according to News 10 ABC.

However some businesses, such as Hoffman Car Wash in Halfmoon, are finding ways to stay open, stated the article.

The carwash had to shut down on Tuesday, reported the article, but Tom Hoffman Jr., CEO, worked hard to make sure the business was able to open on Wednesday.

“We were able to get swimming pool water, actually, [and] not drinking water,” said Hoffman in the article. “We’re actually using swimming pool water to wash cars today.”

Hoffman stated that bringing in water is costly, continued the article, but it would be more costly if the business had to close completely.

“We have to satisfy our customers and keep our employees working,” explained Hoffman in the article. “It’s the right thing to do.”

The video accompanying the article noted that the carwash is pumping around 7,500 gallons of pool water through a hose from trucks parked outside of the carwash to wash cars.

According to another article by Time Warner Cable News, Hoffman reported that he is prepared to pump water using the trucks for days in order to stay open during the water emergency. You can find this article here.

Another news story, featured on www.wnyt.com, noted that the pipe broke early this past Sunday morning (Jan. 17), which sent millions of gallons of water into nearby residences; and although the water was restored on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 20), crews are still working to weld the pipe, which could take a few more days to complete.
