Carwash forced to close after repeated thefts and vandalism

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — With the carwash destroyed, it can no longer operate.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — According to www.fox4kc.com, Steve Reaves, the owner of Squeeky Kleen Carwash, which has been open since 1983, said that he has been forced to close the carwash down for good due to a slew of thieves and vandals targeting his business.

“I have no choice. I can’t replace the coin receptacles. Without the coin receptacles, I can’t take any money. I can’t turn on the carwashes. I mean, basically I’ve got a paperweight I can’t put paper under,” Reaves explained.

Reaves bought the carwash eight years ago, but it’s only recently that thieves and vandals have destroyed it, forcing him to shut down, the article continued.

“The first time that it had major damage was more than $11,000, and my insurance company canceled me, and I have not been able to get insurance,” Reaves said. “Close to $10,000 in damage the second time. This time, it’s close to $30,000 in damage, and I have no insurance to cover it,” Reaves said. “Nobody was interested in covering me because of the number of break-ins that I’ve had.”

Reaves states that the thieves were able to bypass all of his security measures: They stole his DVR, broke the security cameras and pulled steel doors off the building, the article added.

In the latest hit, the vandals destroyed every coin machine at the carwash, the article stated.

“I since have found out when they cut the wiring, they shorted out all my equipment in the bays, so this is going to be close to $30,000 worth of damage,” Reaves explained.

Reaves added that, without the stolen equipment, the carwash was useless, the article continued.

“They all assume that it’s on the insurance company, but insurance companies will not carry you if you’re getting hit too often. It’s hitting the little people,” Reaves said.

Reaves’ family started a GoFundMe page as a last chance to start over, the article concluded.
