HACKENSACK, N.J. — According to www.nbcnews.com, Evelyn Asperilla, 64, mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake after pulling out of Spotless Car Wash and drove her SUV into a river.
Oriolis Ran, 41, a bystander, ran to the Hackensack River and helped pull Evelyn and her passenger, Carla Asperilla, 27, out of the 2002 Mercedes SUV, the article continued.
The incident was captured on surveillance video, the article added.
The video shows two carwash workers in the parking lot as the vehicle pulls out and careens toward them, narrowly missing both them and a fence with an exit sign pointing the way out, the article noted.
When the car drops into the river, the two workers and two others rush over, the article stated.
After Ran helped get the women out of the SUV, the Hackensack Fire Department personnel then helped get them out of the river, the article noted.
There were no sever injuries, but Evelyn was taken to the hospital as a precaution, the article stated.
The Hackensack police department is investigating the incident and noted that there were no barricades that would block a car from driving into the water, the article added.
A towing company pulled the vehicle from the river, the article concluded.
