Flooding events result in $600k in carwash damages

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Recurring storms and flash flooding are causing a financial burden for this carwash owner.

NORTH HUNTINGDON, Pa. — Carwash owner Ronald Palarino is viewing the weather unlike most carwash owners, who are merely concerned about low car counts on bad weather days, according to an article posted on triblive.com.

Now, during heavy storms and warnings of flash flooding, this North Huntingdon carwash owner is most concerned about his carwash being flooded again, resulting in hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage, explained the article.

“It’s frustrating. We had $300,000 to $400,000 in damage in September, and there’s $300,000 in damage from July,” said Palarino, owner of Palarino’s Car Wash & Express Detailing Center on Route 30.

Among the damage from the flooding, added the article, was a damaged wall and office space, and a new garage door was installed because water pushed in the bottom of the door, reaching and ruining dryers.

“I should not have to live like this,” said Palarino, who has owned the carwash for 31 years. “If it keeps happening … I’m going to be gone,” he told North Huntingdon Commissioners last week.

According to Palarino, the flooding is being caused by a broken storm water pipe on an adjacent 16-acre property.
