Owner drills well during rationing rules

DUNCAN, Okla. — Brown is spending between $35,000 and $45,000 to drill the well, but the investment will pay off if he loses access to city water.

DUNCAN, Okla. — Johnny Brown, owner of five carwashes in the area, has begun to drill a well for his businesses as lake levels continue to recede, according to the Duncan Banner.

According to the town’s law, no outdoor water usage will be allowed if lake levels drop below 25 percent, noted the article. Recently Lake Waurika has been below 28 percent full.

In the article, Brown says he is anticipating a worst-case scenario. Drought conditions have been in place for the past four years, and they could continue for the next year or two.

Brown is spending between $35,000 and $45,000 to drill the well, but the investment will pay off if he loses access to city water, reported the article.

Carwashes were granted an exemption to the city’s Stage 5 rationing rules, stated the article. They can only operate between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The restrictions have cut his revenue by 25 percent, shares Brown in the article, but once the well is finished, water rationing will no longer be a concern.
