SANTE FE, NM — Squeaky Clean carwash company here will pay $60,000 to settle a wage dispute, according to SantaFeNewMexican.com.
The Aug. 27 story stated that the settlement will end the dispute filed with the state’s Department of Workforce Solutions. Also, as part of the settlement, Squeaky Clean management will have to attend a Wage-and-Hour training class to develop a manual for employees.
The settlement payments began on Aug. 17 with a lump-sum payment of $2,000 to each of the six claimants minus payroll withholding. In addition, the claimants will receive $111 over the next 36 months.
As PC&D reported, the case started when workers filed complaints alleging violations of a wage ordinance in June. The claims were settled on July 17 with the help of a hearing officer, and both sides agreed to complete confidentiality. All charges against the carwash at the Wage-and-Hour division were dropped.
The parties involved on both sides of the case refused to discuss the matter, but records indicate it may have taken more than a week to complete the hearing. Settling the case could have proved less expensive than litigating, according to the story.
