DOVER, England — After submitting a planning application to change the use of its premises to a public hand-washing and valeting service along with a car rental and leasing facility, the CMW Group is in danger of having to close its carwashing business, according to kentonline.co.uk.
The CMW Group’s main business is car rentals and sales. It opened the carwash service in March 2013.
Nearby resident Louis Melville is concerned that the business operates in a conservation area, meant to protect 18th and 19th century suburbs in historic towns, said the article.
In the article, Melville said the carwash was set up without permission, and his wife, Julia Stavrietsky, said the carwash “cannot be deemed as an appropriate business venture, with its noise and spray, in the middle of a conservation area…”
CMW Manager Gary Amner said his location used to house a petrol station, which had a carwash as well. He says the salt from the sea hits the buildings as well as cars, which he cleans off, stated the article.
Amner is also concerned people will lose their jobs if the carwash closes.
The application will be considered at a planning meeting Aug. 28, noted the article.
