VERNON HILLS, IL — Bucky’s Express proposed a new combination carwash, c-store and gas station here, but the plan’s approval comes with a number of conditions, the Daily Herald reported.
The Sept. 6 story stated that the demolition then construction of a bigger facility would have to be completed under the close eye of the village board. The city’s planning and zoning commission recently approved the project by a 5-1 vote.
Even so, the village board recommended an ordinance granting approval, but it is subject to 19 conditions including variations for setbacks, landscaping and other items. The village board is also expecting more information regarding the layout of the facilities and the architectural design of the building.
The additional information was requested after lengthy questioning from Mayor Roger Byrne who was concerned about traffic congestion. The board will receive aerial and ground-level photos of similarly configured locations before making a final decision.
The facility would be open 24 hours a day, and it would include eight gas pump islands, a tunnel carwash and a vacuum station. “It’s going to be brand-new from under the ground to the top,” Richard McMahon, a representative for Bucky’s, said in the story. “I have never been in a community that has been so intensive and paid such attention to the details of design.”
