GARY, IN — Multiple law enforcement agencies were called in after an explosion and gunfire at a carwash here, the Post-Tribune reported.
The Aug. 8 story stated that there was a “huge boom” followed by gunfire, but little information could be provided about the incident.
ATF Resident-Agent-In-Charge Jerry Gordon confirmed that an “explosive device” was thrown at a newly-opened carwash here, and he revealed that the ATF will be assisting in the investigation.
The blast was heard shortly after noon yesterday, and evidence at the scene suggests that it was a grenade-type explosive that caused damage to Hassle-free Tires and Car Wash’s brick exterior.
Gary police officers also called in Crime Scene Investigation technicians to photograph the scene and collect evidence from the wash. A police spokeswoman said the call came in as “shots fired” and could not provide information about the explosion.
The building has been used as a carwash for many years, but the current operation has only been open a few weeks. No one was injured by the blast or gunfire, the story noted.
