Update: Waterville to reconsider rezoning request

WATERVILLE, Maine — Local residents are concerned about possible pollution, noise and traffic.

WATERVILLE, Maine — Last month, the Waterville City Council denied a rezoning request for the site of a proposed 24-hour carwash, according to CentralMaine.com.

In a recent meeting, the City Council decided to reconsider Yellow Dog Car Wash’s request, stated the article.

Sydney Mayhew, councilor, said in remarks to the council at the beginning of the meeting that last month’s vote against rezoning “was a ‘tragedy’ that encouraged the perception that Waterville was a bad city to start a business in,” the article continued.

Jerald Hurdle, a doctor of osteopathic medicine, wants to build a touchless, automatic carwash at the location of the former A.L. Weeks & Sons auto body shop, reported the article, and the city board reviewed Hurdle’s site plan last month but delayed voting on the proposal.

Local residents are concerned about possible pollution, noise and traffic from the carwash, added the article.

“Mayor Nick Isgro made a formal recommendation that the council reconsider its vote,” informed the article.

Isgro noted in the article that denying the rezoning request was “premature” without permitting the city’s planning board to go through the review process for Yellow Dog Car Wash’s site plan.
