Local wash features thriving garden, grows food for nonprofit

WAYNE, N.J. — Wayne Auto Spa’s Victory Garden recently welcomed 12 children and their mothers from The Hope Residence at Eva’s Village, who helped harvest vegetables.

WAYNE, N.J. — The Victory Garden, located at Rob Burke’s Wayne Auto Spa, has developed into a hub for volunteers, according to NorthJersey.com.

Burke partners with the Community Kitchen at Eva’s Village by growing food for the nonprofit organization, the article stated.

Eva’s Village, the article reported, is “a uniquely progressive and comprehensive nonprofit, social service organization dedicated to fighting homelessness and poverty.”

Victory Garden recently welcomed 12 children and their mothers from The Hope Residence at Eva’s Village, who helped harvest vegetables, the article continued.

“You had to see the looks on those kids’ faces when we were harvesting the carrots,” said Burke in the article. “They were so excited to see the process. It was tremendous. In addition to the harvesting, we cleared out a bed, [and] then prepped it for replanting.”

What started as an outdoor venture has transformed into a thriving garden, featuring a greenhouse as well as fruits and vegetables growing year-long, informed the article.

“As it gets bigger and bigger, obviously there’s more work; and that’s fine by me,” stated Burke in the article. “But to get the help of so many volunteers now is such a blessing. Many of the volunteers [are] through Eva’s, but we also have people helping out locally in town, too.”

Burke also cultivates bees and raises chickens, added the article.

Furthermore, Burke demonstrates his commitment to the environment through Wayne Auto Spa, which features solar panels on the carwash, a water filtration system, recycled oil from the oil changes used in the carwash’s furnace and a windmill turbine, noted the article.
