TravelCenters of America acquires family-owned c-store chain

WESTLAKE, Ohio —TravelCenters of America LLC plans to rebrand the acquired locations as Minit Mart convenience stores.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — TravelCenters of America LLC announced it has acquired 10 convenience stores from Stop ‘n Go of Medina Inc. in Ohio, according to CSPnet.com.

In the coming months, stated the article, TravelCenters of America plans to rebrand the acquired locations to be Minit Mart c-stores and the sites will also undergo renovations.

The truckstop and travel center company, based in Westlake, has recently acquired numerous c-stores throughout the U.S., reported the article, including $230 million in acquisition agreements for 123 c-stores in six separate transactions from August through December.

Thomas O’Brien, CEO of TravelCenters of America, said during a second-quarter 2015 earnings call that each acquired c-store is expected to be rebranded as a Minit Mart, continued the article, and many sites will also feature on-site food service and/or rebranded gasoline.

Founded in 1963 and operated by Carl and Ruth Abell, informed the article, Stop ‘n Go originally provided milk distribution for the family-owned Elm Farm Dairy.

In 1987, added the article, the Abell’s daughter Becky Shotwell and husband Frank became the next generation to run Stop ‘n Go, expanding the services to include ATMs, Subways and carwashes to meet customer demand.

The family-owned and operated c-store chain expanded to include 10 locations throughout Medina and Wayne counties in Ohio, noted the article.
