MACKAY, Australia — Joel Clinton, former NRL (National Rugby League) star has opened a carwash in Mount Pleasant, according to the Daily Mercury.
For the past two years, Clinton has had the idea of owning and running his own business, stated the article, and felt that a carwash would be a good investment that was not heavily impacted by “the mining downturn.”
“It’s like hospitality,” said Clinton in the article. “Just as people need to eat; people need to buy cars and wash cars.”
He recently celebrated the opening of his new venture, the Magic Hand Carwash, in mid-December.
“At first it was a bit daunting,” stated Clinton in the article. “You’re doing that many cars and that many numbers, and then you turn around and there is another car.”
A wash at Magic Hand Carwash takes an hour or less to complete, reported the article, and Clinton aims to wash up to 100 cars on Saturdays and Sundays.
“It’s convenient for people to go shopping, buy groceries and have something to eat,” explained Clinton in the article. “We send a text to [the customers] once their [cars are] finished. We start from the basic [exterior wash] right through to a full detail.”
Clinton relates carwashing to rugby, noted the article. “The ‘team’ has really taken to [carwashing] like a duck to water.”
